THE worst industrial eyesore in the Bolton area - 33 acres of poisonous waste on the site of the old Hall Lane chemical works at Little Lever - is about to be obliterated. Lancashire County Council today announced that the contract for the reclamation of this derelict land, at an estimated cost of £96,000, will be awarded in a matter of weeks. What makes Hall Lane such a daunting task for the environmentalists is the one million tons of toxic waste in the 100-ft-high tip, which blight the surrounding area.

'THE basic causes of marriage failure are to be found in false ideas and unsound emotional attitudes developed before marriage in youth and even in childhood', says the Committee on Reforms of Divorce Procedure in their final report. There was a need for a carefully-graded system of general education for marriage, parenthood and family living to be available to all young people as they grew up, and specific marriage preparation of engaged couples.

Although not the largest shop in the Street, I do by far the largest business and employ double the number of first-class Assistants of any Grocer in it. And, I now believe, I sell TWO lbs. of Tea for every ONE lb. of tea sold in the biggest Grocer's shop.

This at once convinces me that I am buying and selling better value in Tea than my neighbours. It is very gratifying for me to think, though it is not twelve months since I moved to these premises, that I am undoubtedly doing a much larger business, especially in tea, than the largest shop in the Street.

This position I will strain every nerve to maintain and improve, by buying in the best possible markets, then bringing to bear all my experience in the Tea Trade in mixing Teas of the different kinds so as to please the people of Bolton.

I will challenge Bolton to produce better.

My price for these teas, as mixed in my best canister, is only

3s 4d per lb., or 10d per Quarter.
