A NEW Labour think tank has summed up what many of us have known for some time - white people are not the only ones to show racial prejudice.

An inquiry for the Institute of Public Policy Research has revealed that Blacks, Asians and Jews can be just as hostile in their attitudes to other groups.

It appears that more people today are worried about crime and unemployment than they are about race. Given the daily reports on such matters, that is not surprising.

Many people will quarrel with the report, of course. A whole race relations industry has grown up on the back of blaming white people for race discrimination, and positive discrimination policies operate in some areas.

Racism in all its forms is abhorrent to any right-thinking person. People should be judged on their abilities and their moral standards not on the colour of their skin or their religions.

There is nothing wrong with ethnic pride. The trouble starts when it spins over into prejudice.

If a report such as the IPPR one gets people discussing inter-ethnic-prejudice and how to tackle it, then it will be doing an excellent service.
