SIR: Mr P Rothwell was incensed about the article on the proposed restaurant at Bromley Cross (BEN, January 28). Maybe, but his facts and observations are inaccurate and need to be corrected. His small building for 50 or 60 at most is in fact for 120 diners and 42 cars.

He says nowhere in the immediate area serves meals in the evening. In fact there are seven restaurants and many pubs serving food until late evening. Many of these are within walking distance from Turton Heights, all can be reached within five or six minutes by car. There are plenty of Indian, Chinese and Italian restaurants in Bolton and outlying areas around the town.

In addition four further restaurants are to be built at Tonge Valley, open within a year.

I know not all residents are opposed to the planned development, but I believe the majority are, particularly those in close proximity.

Mr Rothwell would have had reason to be incensed if this development was proposed on his doorstep.

I find his remarks regarding the fuss being created and his thinking that Turton High School was being taken over, both juvenile and offensive.
