SIR: I am replying to P Rothwell, whose comments in the BEN recently referred to the lack of an Indian restaurant house in Bromley Cross. I too haven't lived in the area for very long, but I am aware of local people's feelings regarding infiltration by outsiders occupying the area, which once was a small village, and I am sympathetic to their views.
Introduction of a restaurant such as the one proposed would open the floodgates to a whole host of eating houses, each competing for the other's business. Before you know it, there would be such increased commercialisation that the 'village', or what's left of it, would take on the appearance of, for example, Rusholme or Levenshulme in Manchester. Do you know what these places are like in the evenings?
