LOCAL derbies always have that certain something and the Sean Grainey Memorial Cup game between Tyldesley and Leigh was no exception.

The home side dominated for long periods and a typical Lee Berrisford try and a conversion and penalty from Tim Brown put Tyldesley 10-6 ahead late into the second half. The loss of Full-back Steve Palin saw Dave Sivill introduced and he was involved in the turning part of the game.

Another swift Tyldesley build-up saw Sivill cross for what looked the match-winning score, however the referee had other ideas and from the resultant penalty Leigh went the full length of the field to score and with the conversion from Mark Hudspith the visitors recorded a 13-10 victory.

Tyldesley seconds travelled to Leigh with several enforced changes but began a stirring fightback after going behind by two early penalties. Ian Worsfold landed a superb long range penalty and following a strong run by Howard Hughes and good support play from David Goulborne, Jimmy Shaw wwent over. Tyldesley withstood some good pressure by Leigh and made it up the field again and following a driving maul Goulborne touched down to complete the scoring 13-6.

Tyldesley thirds had a hard fought game at home to Leigh but came through with 13-3 win.
