SIR: Every month the Government announces a drop in the unemployment figures. If this continues it is only a question of time before no-one is unemployed in the UK.

However these figures are based on the number of people who are claiming unemployment benefit and not on the number of those without a job. There are several groups of people who are not allowed to claim this benefit due to a Government ruling.

Therefore I would be obliged if someone could inform me how many millions are actually without a job in this country. The silence at present from the Government on this vexing question is quite deafening.
