PARAMEDICS and firefighters joined together to rescue a seriously injured 13-year-old girl trapped on a factory roof.

The young girl was badly hurt when her leg slipped through a glass skylight as she tried to retrieve a ball from the roof of a disused mill off Anderton Street, Higher Ince.

Badly bleeding, she managed to scramble to a thin parapet about 30ft off the ground and her friends on the ground raised the alarm.

Paramedics from Hindley used ladders from the fire engine to reach the girl and treated her while balancing on the thin parapet. Firefighters used a special hydraulic platform to bring the schoolgirl's stretcher to the ground after the incident yesterday afternoon.

The girl, who has not been named, was rushed to hospital in Wigan and is expected to undergo surgery today.
