A BOLTON mother is fighting for compensation after claiming her seven-year-old son was given the wrong treatment at the Royal Bolton Hospital.

Sandra Daniels says she has already started legal action and hopes to claim compensation through the courts.

The hospital authorities say they cannot comment until an investigation into her complaint is completed.

Mrs Daniels says her son was left "screaming in agony" and claims nurses treated Daniel's skin for scabies instead of psoriasis. The mother of three, of Woodvale Avenue, Great Lever, claims Daniel was treated without first being seen by a consultant, who was said to be "too busy".

She rushed Daniel to the hospital's accident and emergency department when he developed a rash all over his body.

Mrs Daniels said the hospital kept him in overnight with an assurance that he would see a dermatologist the following day, Sunday.

"A dermatologist couldn't see him because he was too busy, but the dermatologist told nurses to treat him for scabies using a cream," she said. "Daniel began screaming in agony and the nurses immediately washed it off."

Daniel was discharged from the ward on the Sunday tea-time but was seen again a few days later.

Mrs Daniels claims more cream was prescribed which also caused Daniel, who has a history of psoriasis, to scream in pain. Mrs Daniels said: "I've been to the GP and he doesn't know what the rash is, but everyone suspects its psoriasis. He has suffered from it since he was born.

"I can't understand why he was treated for scabies which is something entirely different. "Daniel is still in pain and he can't go near water without crying out."

Mrs Daniels said she was taking legal action because treatment was begun on her son before he had been seen by a specialist.

A hospital spokesman said: "We have received a complaint about this case and a full investigation is being carried out."
