A DISABLED Bolton woman has been landed with TWO £300,000 phone bills after a British Telecom computer blunder.

And today red-faced BT officials admitted other mobile phone customers have received faulty bills.

June Fogg could not believe her eyes when a bill arrived this week - for a staggering £367,142.53p.

Later a SECOND bill arrived demanding £338,731.80p.

The 57-year-old was expecting a statement for £21 after using her mobile phone at Christmas to contact her husband at work.

June, of Wigan Road, said: "I knew mobile phones were expensive but this is ludicrous.

"I'm classed as a low cost customer - but obviously no-one has let British Telecom know."

June, who suffers from a rare form of arthritis and is housebound, uses her mobile only occasionally when she needs to contact her husband, who works in Radcliffe. June said: "How can BT say it's cheap to talk?

"I am refusing to let this matter upset me - some people could be very distraught. But I think it is rather funny. You hear about this sort of thing happening but you never expect it to happen to you.

June says the itemised bill should have amounted to £21.

But the figure on both giro account slips reads over £300,000.

Mrs Fogg's bills arrived just days after the BEN received a call from a distressed Lostock pensioner who was billed more than £2,000 by BT.

The old man said the mistake, for which he later received an apology, wrecked his Christmas and caused him weeks of worry.

A BT Mobile spokesman said: "BT Mobile would like to apologise to the small number of customers affected by a system error on their statement. The only customers affected were those requesting a copy invoice since January 23, 1997.

"The customer's original invoice and copy were both correct. However, the statement which accompanied the copy invoice was in error.

"The system fault has been rectified and additional checks introduced to prevent this happening again.

"Affected customers will receive an apology." BT refuse to say how many customers have been affected.
