THE Lever Park Bill suffered another major setback in the Commons last night when six MPs united to put forward a blocking motion, delaying debate for at least six months.

Worsley Labour MP Terry Lewis, Tom Sackville of Bolton West, Bolton North-east Independent Peter Thurnham, Tory Den Dover of Chorley, Labour's Andrew Bennett of Denton and Reddish and Labour's Gerald Kaufman of Gorton were behind the motion.

Mr Lewis said he had deliberately held up the Bill to give objectors more time to put their case.

The Bill's passage through the House had already been delayed by Tory MP Tom Sackville, after he presented 15 separate protest petitions.
