SIR: Parents, everywhere, are keeping watch over their children just a little more closely at present.

Once again, we were rocked by another seemingly inexplicable attack on young and defenceless children. No sooner had we come to terms with the Dunblane tragedy than children at a Teddy Bears' Picnic were subjected to an horrendous machete attack. Just what is going on, and what can we do about it?

Civic and religious leaders have spoken out about the need for teachers to 'fix things'. Poor teachers - they get the blame for all the ills of society! No, the answer lies closer to home .... literally.

Home is the place to save society and we must - as a society - do all we can to support the home and the traditional family. Parents - not teachers - are the ones to be teaching moral values, supported by the schools and all the other institutions of society.

The best thing we can do for our children, then, is to fix the society in which they live.

Let's adopt the slogan of the anti-drug movement, and be prepared to stand up and say "No". No, to the endless diet of sex and violence on our TVs. No, to the constant demeaning of the roles of father, mother and the family. No, to immorality, in all its forms.
