A FURIOUS Bolton councillor has issued an ultimatum to a gang of teenagers he claims are terrorising his family. Labour Cllr Paul Perry, who represents Tonge ward and lives in a crescent off Crompton Way, says the gang gathered outside his house on three evenings last week.

They were abusive and threw bricks at the house.

On two occasions Cllr Perry chased them away. Police were called but the youths fled.

But more recently the gang returned when Cllr Perry's wife and daughter were alone while he was away overnight on business.

Now Cllr Perry wants to meet them to learn their grievances.

He said: "There are sometimes as many as 15. If this carries on I will be pressing for prosecutions.

"If they have something to say to me then they should come forward and say it. But my wife and daughter are not councillors and should not have to put up with it.

"My wife is in a terrible state after this mental assault. I have missed meetings to stay with her.

"I care about the community I represent and love living here. My wife and daughter don't want to move but it is getting to the stage where we are prisoners in our home."

Chief Inspector Peter Driver at Astley Bridge police station said an officer will contact Cllr Perry to discuss the situation.

"If we are able to obtain evidence that offences have been committed we will arrest people.

"But we have to work within the law and if Cllr Perry is unable to recognise the youths, is not prepared to give evidence, or if no witnesses are found there is very little that we can do.

"Problems with youths are more common during the school holidays but we will always do what we can in cases of anti-social behaviour."
