BOOKWORMS have given Bolton's libraries a good report.

An in-depth survey carried out in the Central and branch libraries has revealed that most users are happy with the service offered.

An astonishing 97 pc of users judged Bolton's Central library on Le Mans Crescent to be "very good" or "good."

And 85 pc of people gave the town's large branch libraries Horwich, Farnworth, Harwood and Westhoughton, a vote of "very good" or "good." For the smaller branch libraries, it was 66 pc.

The survey also revealed that the vast majority of customers at branch libraries lived less than a mile away.

The percentage of retired people using the libraries was much higher in the branches, compared with the Central Library.

But the position was reversed with students who counted for 25 pc of users at the Central Library.

There was high interest in borrowing material about the Bolton, Greater Manchester and Lancashire areas.

And the demand for family history information was also high at all libraries.
