A MAN who found an owl outside his Farnworth home is appealing for the owner to come forward.

Paul Entwistle, 46, of Coniston Avenue, tried to nurse the bird back to health but it died soon after he took it inside.

He said: "A boy knocked on our door and told us there was a bird at the side of our house. We brought it inside and wrapped it up by the fire to keep it warm, but it was exhausted and soon died. It could have been attacked by a cat. "I think the owners live nearby but we have asked around without success. We want them to collect the bird so we can tell them what happened."

The owl had a white face and bill with light tanned freckled feathers. A worn leather strap, brown in colour, is attached to its leg. It is 2in long and in thick.
