RELATIVES of exiled Boltonian, Mona Erickson, travelled thousands of miles to the USA to celebrate her golden wedding anniversary.

Mona, who grew up in Bolton, married Len Erickson, an American Air Force officer in his home town of Butte, Montana in June 1946.

They met in Chorley during the Second World War and have lived in Butte all their married lives, owning and working in a grocery store for 32 years before retiring in 1980.

The couple have three married children - Max Erickson, a successful businessman from Havre, Lesley Whalen, a teacher living in Billings and Laurel Egan, a librarian and artist living in Butte. They have eight grand children.

Among the Bolton relatives who joined Mona and Len for their celebrations were Gladys and Harold Marsh, Sadie and Jim Bibby, Joyce and Gerry Nelson, Valerie and Alan Cook and Peter and Margaret Birch.

The happy couple celebrated at the Big Sky Mountain Resort in Montana at a party hosted by their children and grand children.
