THE two men killed when their light aircraft crashed near Barton Aerodrome yesterday were Turkish journalists based in London.
The pilot and passenger died instantly after their plane suddenly fell from 50ft and crashed into a field near the aerodrome minutes after an unauthorised take-off.
The two men, who worked in the London office of the Turkish daily newspaper The Hurriyet, are believed to have been in Manchester over the weekend.
Although both men, believed to be in their 30s, have been identified through dental records and their families informed, their names have not yet been released.
The Rallye two-seater plane took-off from Barton just after 7am yesterday, two hours before authorised flights were allowed.
The Civil Aviation Authority has been informed and an Air Accident Investigation team is currently looking into the crash.
