DETECTIVES are probing a teenager's claims that he was abducted by a man who accused him of stealing a car.

The 17-year-old - who has since been charged with stealing the vehicle - claims he was kidnapped and driven away after being blindfolded and tied up.

Police have confirmed that the teenager has been charged with stealing a car in Walkden last Saturday.

The stolen car was discovered abandoned later the same day on spare land behind the Oakhill Trading Estate. The teenager was charged with the theft of the car after he contacted Bolton Police, claiming that he had been abducted.

The teenager claims he was kidnapped, blindfolded and tied up, before being driven around Bolton.

He says he was eventually released after being threatened.

A police spokesman said inquiries into the teenager's claims are continuing.
