ATHERTON LR Manager Dave Morris predicts local rivals Leigh RMI will be in the promotion frame at the end of the season.

His comments came after LR had lost their second game in three days conceding six goals along the way and but for a brilliant goal keeping display from Andy Hills the goals against column would be a lot worse.

"Leigh are a good side, they pushed the boat out in the close season and on this performance they will be there or thereabouts come next April." said Morris. "Andy Hills played well and kept the scoreline respectable but we have got to pick ourselves up and start again next Saturday."

Hill kept RMI at bay in the first half with a string of fine saves, the best being a tip over from a Keith Evan's rocket shot that had taken a wicked deflection off defender Steve Iley.

But he had no chance with Evan's double strike just after the break.

He blocked Tony Edward's pile driver only to see Evans lash the rebound into the roof of the net.

Five minutes later the Leigh striker made it three goals in two games when he dispossessd Burrows before racing into the box and firing a low drive into the far corner.

In control RMI manager, Steve Waywell had made two changes after Saturday's defeat against Droysden bringing in Kevan Booth and Dave Ridings and the moves paid dividends.

"Our plan was to keep them goalless at the break and then give it a go down the slope in the second half and those two quick goals settled us down and we never lost control," said Waywell.

"The scoreline doesn't do us justice but their keeper pulled off four saves when the ball looked destined for the back of the net."
