CAMPAIGNERS have vowed to carry on fighting to keep a council run OAP home open, even if it means taking the case to court. Stocks Park in Horwich is one of two local authority run residential homes recommended for closure by social services chiefs. But protesters believe the fight to keep them open is not over until the full council meets on September 18, to approve the decisions of individual committees.

Mr Dave Greeenfield, of Ainsworth Avenue, Horwich, said: "We are going to carry on the fight to keep these facilities for the people of Horwich.

"We will be pressing the council to revert to the original plans to turn Stocks Park into a community care centre.

"We do not want the elderly residents of Horwich being sent all over the borough. It does not make sense."

Campaigners claim the council engineered the closure of Stocks park by running down the numbers of residents and not spending money on the building.

Mr Greenfield believes this may give the campaigners grounds for fighting the closure in the courts.
