A DISTRESSED landlady is offering a reward for the return of her treasured pet, which disappeared during renovation work at her pub.

Elaine Urcelay, 43, licensee of the Gibraltar Rock, on Deane Road, Bolton, says she does not know whether her German Shepherd pet, Milan, just wandered off and got lost - or has been stolen.

Ironically, two days after the dog disappeared thieves broke into the living quarters of the pub when it reopened after being closed for two weeks. The thieves stole cash and bottles of spirits, worth up to £1,000, while Elaine and her partner, Luciano, were working in the bar downstairs.

But it is the loss of Milan which has left the couple heartbroken.

The timid pet, only 18 months old, was obtained by the couple from the German Shepherd Rescue Centre. He had been badly treated by previous owners, but has rapidly proved to be a popular character with regulars at the pub.

Elaine thinks Milan may have been stolen by the thieves themselves before they broke into the pub two days later.

Anyone who believes they know the wherabouts of Milan or can help is asked to contact Elaine tel: Bolton 523084.
