WE welcome the announcement that Home Office funding has been secured for Bolton Police to recruit special constables from the ranks of the unemployed.
It's an excellent plan. People want to see more bobbies on the beat. This is one way of not only achieving this, but of enabling people from the dole queue to gain National Vocational Qualifications which will improve their job prospects.
