SIR: I would like to remind N Bamford (BEN: May 13), how wrong he is by blaming GM Buses for increased fares. I would like to tell him that GM Buses have been taken over (privatised) by a southern firm who, like all other takeovers encouraged by the Tory Government, are not in the business to consider passengers, only the profit motive. But I do realise that they increased fares within days of take-over. As for waiting for buses in the evening, here again most of it is due to compulsory competitive tendering ordered again by the Tories.
