A BOLTON man who broke his leg after falling into a pothole dragged himself through a park to raise the alarm.

Alan Pasquill, aged 25, crawled on his hands and knees in the darkness, shouting for help.

His cries were eventually heard by nearby residents who contacted the police.

The police helicopter was scrambled to the scene and officers spotted the injured joiner on the ground.

Mr Pasquill, of Hobart Street, was taken to Bolton Royal Infirmary where he was still detained this lunchtime. He was described as "comfortable" by a hospital spokesman.

Police said that just before 5am residents in Woodside Square, Darcy Lever, heard a man shouting for help. One housewife told police she could heard someone shouting but could see nothing in the darkness. Ambulance paramedics treated Mr Pasquill at the scene before he was taken to hospital.

Today his parents were unaware of the accident.

His father, William, said: "Alan enjoys walking but no-one has informed us about his accident. This has come as quite a shock."

A police spokesman said: "It appears Mr Pasquill fell into a pothole.

"I don't know when the accident happened or how long it took him to raise the alarm."
