THE search is one for the top tourism achievers, as preparations get underway for the 1996 North-west Tourism Awards.

Local attractions can be nominated for the awards, organised by the North-west Tourist Board.

This year's presentation ceremony will be held on Friday, August 2, at the Paradise Room, Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

Dazzling dancing girls from the Paradise Room will be on hand to ensure a show-stopping event.

Chairman of the North-west Tourist Board, Mr Anthony Goldstone, said: "The 1996 awards will recognise the very best tourism operators in the region and the people who continue to provide the high standard of facilities which visitors to the region have come to expect."

This year's awards ceremony, sponsored by BNFL, will feature six categories including restaurant of the year, place to stay and attraction of the year.

People are invited to vote for the categories by filling in cards available at venues across the region.

Attractions must be in Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Cheshire, Merseyside, or the High Peak of Derbyshire.
