TEMPEST clinched promotion to the West Lancashire League First Division with a win and a draw this week.

A 37th goal of the season for Ian Horrocks earned them a draw against Thornton International before victory over Whinney Hill took them up.

Tempest opened the scoring when Stuart Aldred outpaced the defence to latch on to a superb through ball from Paul Warburton and cleverly chip the goalkeeper.

Horrocks stepped in to secure the points with a left foot shot and added another with a fine angled shot from the edge of the box.

Still in with a chance of runners-up spot Tempest take on Fleetwood Hesketh in their last league match of the season at home on Saturday (ko 3pm).

But it was bad news in the Bolton Hospital Cup last night when they were knocked out in extra time by Haslingden.

Haslingden dominated the first half and scored twice through McDowell and Morgan.

Tempest hit back in fine style in the second period and levelled through Benjamin and Horrobin. McDowell got his second and the winner in extra time to put Haslingden in the semi-finals.
