SIR: Your decision to give page-lead status to an unremarkable drunk and disorderly case (BEN Friday, April 19) calls into question the editorial standards of the BEN and smacks of a cheapskate attempt to sensationalise.
As everyone knows, Angus Diggle's life and career will have been seriously affected by his past conviction, and whatever the rights or wrongs of that, there is no need to emblazon his name and face all over your pages whenever any minor indiscretion comes to your notice. This case, like similar ones, merited a couple of column inches at m0st. The coverage it received can only have been of interest to zealots who delight in hurting a man when he's down. I would hope that the BEN could display more sense of proportion in future and give Mr Diggle a chance to rebuild his life away from your microscope.
