SIR: I read with disgust the treatment of a motorist, fined £40 for three minutes' overdue parked on Churchgate, and the official hadn't even finished taking details!
Having just paid a £20 fixed penalty fine today for our alleged "petty offence" of obstruction on Thynne Street on Thursday April 11, one wonders if the powers that be are behind the attitude of the Police, Traffic Wardens etc, of if they get a personal satisfaction from their often arrogant and unreasonable attitude.
A friend was fined £10 last week on a Bolton town centre pay and display park down by Prestons for being just a few minutes overdue. They had been unavoidably held up at the opticians but Town Hall officials were unrepentant - not so the opticians - they generously offered to pay the fine. At least some people are human!
