SIR: Once again we read that another pupil has been sent home from school for having an "unacceptable" haircut. There is one simple solution to this - bring back the school cap!
Today's kids haven't lived if they haven't sampled the delights of wearing a school cap - in my case, we had a green and red cap and, if you got to become a prefect, you were allowed to add a gold tassle to it! And who could forget the wonderful "Bowler Hats" worn by the girls of Bury Grammar School!
As a hairdresser in the town, with clients attending probably every school in the area, it has to be said that, in my experience, I find the school that achieves the best academic results has the least "rules" for hair.
