A PLAN to serve open air snacks in Bolton Victoria Square has been scotched by the town's Public Control Committee. Elan Catering asked for permission to introduce a refreshments service this summer. Waitresses operating from the Wimpy Bar at the corner of the square would have sold soft drinks, ice cream and sandwiches. But the committee refused the application "at the present time".

THE body of Benito Mussolini was removed by unknown persons from the Maggiore Cemetery, Milan, last night. The discovery was made by workers who had been sent to the cemetery to exhume other bodies. Mussolini was buried in a pauper's grave after his execution by partisans near the Swiss border in May, 1945, as he was attempting to escape over the border.

A MEETING of cotton spinners and manufacturers was held yesterday in the Cotton Saleroom of the Royal Exchange, Manchester, to consider what steps should be taken in support of the Oldham employers in resisting the demand made by the operatives to close the mills at twelve-o'clock on Saturdays. The following resolution was passed: "That this meeting believes that the demand of the Oldham operatives is both unreasonable and unjust, and pledges itself to support the Oldham spinners in the present movement." The general feeling was that the employers should fight to the bitter end against the two-hours' movement on Saturdays.
