PERHAPS Easter Saturday is one of the most popular days for weddings. And just how many young women lately released from the Services and other work are setting up house for the first time. We all find it difficult to make the best use of our rations. A complete set of breakfasts for the week follows, which should be of some help, especially to the newly-weds. Bread or toast with butter, or margarine, and jam or other sweet spread, and tea should be included at each breakfast.

Sunday - Porridge, poached egg on toast. Monday - Wheatmeallies, savoury potato cakes, using tinned salmon. Tuesday - Pan hash with bacon flavouring. Wednesday - Bacon with fried bread or potatoes. Thursday - Packet cereal, savoury potato cakes using cheese. Friday - Porridge. Kippers or herrings. Saturday - Sausages or breakfast sausage.

SHORTLY after eleven o'clock last night smoke was observed issuing from the windows of the premises at the corner of Bradshawgate, occupied by Mr William Cleary, bookseller and photographer; and presently a light was observed within the shop, which was evidently not that from a gas burner.

When the fire brigade arrived, it was found that a portion of the extensive double premises forming the drapery establishment of Mr Griffiths had been penetrated and that the whole block was in imminent danger. The firemen attached two branches of hose to the hydrant at the corner of Bradshawgate, and having affected an entrance played upon the fire for about half an hour, when very fortunately they obtained the mastery over the flames. A large crowd of persons had assembled, and great excitement prevailed during the short but sharp conflict.
