A COUPLE escaped unhurt when their car careered out of control on St Peter's Way after a blow out.

The Fiat car swerved across the Manchester-bound carriageway and crashed into the central crash barrier before overturning.

Remarkably the driver 51-year-old Trevor Lloyd and his wife, Elizabeth, emerged from the wreckage suffering only minor cuts and bruises.

The couple of Coniston Avenue, Little Hulton, refused hospital treatment. Their car was wrecked in the collision with the crash barrier as they were returning home on Saturday from a shopping expedition in Bolton.

Reflecting on their narrow escape today Mr Lloyd said: "There was nothing I could do to control the car after the tyre burst. I just had to sit there and hope for the best.

"The car's a wreck now but at least we're both alright. That's the main thing."
