A BIG protest march may be held to draw attention to the battle against plans for a supertip at Red Moss, Horwich.

The idea was first mooted at an exploratory meeting of Horwich Town Forum, called by the Red Moss Action Campaign last month.

Discussions are still at an early stage, but the likely route would be an east to west march along Chorley New Road, with a rallying point at the end. If it goes ahead, MPs and environmentalists from all over the country will be invited to attend.

Horwich Town Council is supporting the march and is prepared to help towards the cost of a band to lead it.

The first official meeting of the Town Forum, which is open to local organisations, will be on Monday at Horwich RMI Club, starting at 7.30pm. The aim is to get all the town's organisations together to present a united front against the tip plan.

Earlier this week the Government's Environment Agency, made up of the former National Rivers Authority, Pollution Inspectorate and Waste Regulation Authority, lodged a formal objection to the application by UK Waste.
