A BOLTON man is celebrating after earning a PhD in electrical power systems from Imperial College in London.

The qualification follows a series of others gained by Dr Nigel Hawkins, who now works in Wales.

Among them was a 1st Class Honours BSc degree in electrical engineering, sponsored by the Central Electricity Generating Board, also from Imperial College.

Dr Hawkins is head of commercial operations at First Hydro, an electricity generating company in Deeside, Clwyd.

His hobbies include skiing, water skiing, running and classical guitar. He is also a qualified glider pilot.

Although Dr Hawkins has left Bolton, his parents still live at Westhoughton.

The former Lever Bridge Primary and Hayward Grammar pupil also has a MSc in electrical rngineering from Imperial College.
