THE Spring mini-drought ended almost as soon as it began in Bolton. Yesterday, after 14 days without a drop, the town entered an official period of drought. Today, with 0.16 in of rain by lunchtime, the drought was over.

BOLTON Transport Committee has decided, on the advice of the Borough Engineer, that the Horwich tram route should be the first of the three remaining tram routes in the borough to be dispensed with. Drivers of trams on the route are to be instructed to reduce speed on certain sections of the route, the foundations of which are in such a condition that the Borough Engineer feels compelled to advise on the lines indicated. The situation on the Horwich route has deteriorated gravely in the last six weeks, and its closure must be given priority.

COUNTY SESSIONS
A youth named John Clynes, of Little Lever, was committed to prison for 14 days for having, on the night of the 8th March last, broken windows in the house of John Mannix, tailor, Little Lever. - No cause was assigned for the freak other than that the defendant was under the influence of drink
A boy named John Kay, of Halliwell, was fined 1d, 1d damage, and the costs, for having, in his going to work on a certain morning, passed across a field in the occupation of Mr Green.
