PLANNING councillors were today visiting Bolton's dog track before deciding whether a £14 million leisure scheme should be given the go ahead.
London-based Raven Group wants to turn Raikes Park in Manchester Road into an entertainments complex with a multiplex cinema, bingo hall, pub and club facilities and fast food outlets. Planning officers are recommending that it should be refused but the final decision will be made by councillors.
A report due to be presented to planning control sub committee councillors says it would lead to the loss of the dog track and there are no proposals to relocate or replace it.
But dog track management say it could close even if the leisure scheme is thrown out.
