A PEDIGREE puppy destined for the show ring has been stolen.

The 10-week-old Lassie type collie belongs to local farmer and Horwich councillor Joyce Kellett who is offering a reward for its safe return.

The puppy was taken from an enclosure at Walker Fold Road last Thursday and the thieves also let out the pup's mother who wandered along the road.

Christened "Cuddles" by Mrs Kellett's daughter Nicola, the puppy is sable with a huge white ruff and a small distinctive white mark on the right side of its nose. Mrs Kellett values the pup at £300 and had intended to keep him as a show dog. Mrs Kellett said: "I am really worried about him. He has had no injections and he could become ill because he hasn't been out anywhere apart from the house and farm."

She intends to inform vets about the theft with a description of the dog because she says he will have to be taken for injections sooner or later.

"I am offering a reward for his return and for information leading to the prosecution of the person who has taken him. I am also appealing to anyone who has bought a puppy without a kennel club pedigree to get in touch."

The pup's mother Amy is fretting for her offspring who was one of a litter of three. Mrs Kellett has already sold one pup; the other is going to her mum.

The pup's father Reece won best sable at the last Lancashire and Cheshire collie show. "It's very upsetting. I keep wonder what if someone bad has got him. I am always careful to make sure my dogs go to good homes."

Anyone who has any information should ring Mrs Kellett on 01204 468745 or contact the BEN.
