TWO local Tory MPs are being targeted by Labour in their bid to force MPs to disclose their outside earnings.

Bolton North East's Peter Thurnham and Bury South David Sumberg are still undecided on how they will vote on the issue on Monday.

Today a Commons committee recommended tighter controls on MPs' outside interests but rejected making them declare their earnings from outside companies.

Instead it will ban them from speaking and asking questions on issues where they receive payment from firms, and impose tighter rules on consultancies.

But Labour is determined to force a vote on the issue when it debates the Nolan Committee Report on sleaze on Monday.

Bolton West MP and Health Minister Tom Sackville and Bury North MP and Social Security Minister Alistair Burt are likely to vote with the Government and back the committee recommendations, but Mr Thurnham and Mr Sumberg are uncertain.

Mr Thurnham said today: "I am still thinking about it and listening carefully to what people say.

"I would be unhappy about stopping people speaking on issues where they represent outside interests and may have special knowledge."

Mr Sumberg refused to comment, but it is understood Mr Thurnham may vote for disclosure or abstain and Mr Sumberg might abstain.

However, Bolton South East Labour MP David Young will be voting in favour of disclosure.

He said: "I think that an MP is elected to have one job, not a number of jobs. if you are an MP it should be a full time job."
