LEIGH will press ahead with their plans to sign a trio of Cook Islanders despite uncertaintly surrounding the players' standing on the League's overseas quota.

Leigh have contract offers on the table for Ali Davys, Sonny Shepherd and Bobby Hunter who have returned home to think things over.

But with Leigh already having three imports on their register in Tau Liku, Hamon Tuavao and John Perigo and agreed a deal with Tongan winger Jimmy Veikoso, the Hilton Park club could find themselves over quota.

"We're waiting for a ruling from the Rugby League Council," reveals Lucas.

"They have got to decide whether these players are exempt because they're from developing nations; whether they will count if they've played in the Winfield Cup (Australia) or Lion Cup (New Zealand) or if they count simply by playing club rugby in Australia.

"We've got no idea when the Council will make a ruling. Until they do all we can do is press ahead and make sure everything is in place when a decision comes."

Meanwhile, Leigh return to Division Two action on Sunday after the World Cup break.

Scrum-half Shaun Brown goes straight back into first team action at home to Bramley after being out for 11 weeks with a broken arm.

"Although we've managed to take top position in the table, we've missed Shaun's organisational skills since he was injured at Hull KR in only the second match of the season," Lucas admits.

Second rower Harmon Tuavao has also recovered from his broken hand but won't be risked in Thursday's home Alliance match against Hull KR (7.30pm).
