A LEIGH man has been convicted of sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl.

Andrew Tinsley indecently assaulted the little girl while baby sitting, said Ann Whyte prosecuting. The incidents took place 10 years ago but only came to light last year when the victim told her mother what had happened.

When interviewed, 42-year-old Tinsley categorically denied touching the child in a sexual way, added Miss Whyte.

Tinsley, of East Bridgewater Street, Leigh, was convicted by a jury at Liverpool Crown Court of two offences of indecently assaulting the girl between November 1995 and November 1997.

He was remanded on bail for sentencing on December 8.
