A MAN who attacked his wife during a violent row has gone on the run.

Graham Taite, aged 66, fled the family home in Atholl Close, Ladybridge, and left his wife, Jean, with serious head injuries.

Detectives took the unusual step of releasing details of the incident and a picture of Mr Taite in a bid to trace him.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "This was a serious incident and we are anxious to speak to Mr Taite, who is taking medication for heart problems.

"We are appealing for help to trace him. If anyone recognises him or has seen his car since Saturday, please contact us as soon as possible.

"It is not known if he has access to this medication and there are therefore concerns for his health."

Detectives made an appeal for information following the disappearance of Mr Taite after the row with his 65-year-old wife on Saturday.

He was last seen leaving the house at 9pm in what police have described as a "distressed state".

Mr Taite drove away in his champagne gold-coloured Ford Mondeo, registration CA54 OJD, which has not been seen since.

Mrs Taite suffered injuries to her head and face and was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital where she stayed for two days. She is now recovering at home.

She is anxious to trace her husband along with their son.

A neighbour of the Taites said today: "They have always seemed to be a respectable couple and Mr Taite a very pleasant man."

Mr Taite is white, 5ft 5in tall, and slim. He is balding with white hair and wears glasses.

Anyone with information should call Astley Bridge CID on 0161 856 0961 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
