TRADING in counterfeit goods can ruin your Christmas warn Wigan Council trading standards officers.
A man was last week sentenced to 36 days imprisonment after pleading guilty to 10 offences under the Trademarks Act.
When Wigan police stopped 33 year old Iain Hamilton on the M6 they discovered 120 suspect CDs, each one containing between 20 and 40 albums in MP3 format.
Police later seized more CDs and copying equipment from Mr Hamilton's home, before asking Wigan Council to pursue with theprosecution.
After hearing that this was his second offence, Wigan Magistrates imposed a 36 day intermittent custody order, to be served over 18 consecutive weekends.
