CHILDREN in Bolton are flocking to snap up copies of the Narnia series of books.

Bookshops in the town have seen an influx of people asking for the CS Lewis classics.

And although many want a copy of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe - which has been made into a blockbuster film that has soared to the top of the charts this Christmas - a large number have been buying the entire seven-book series.

Sheila Morris, manager of bookshop Sweetens of Bolton, in Deansgate, Bolton, ordered extra copies prior to the film being released.

But she says sales have rocketed, making it a firm number one during the festive period.

She said: "People are very aware of the Narnia series of books and we've found that people don't just want the book behind the current film but they want to read the entire series.

"The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe is the second book in the series so many want to read the first book first, and are then going on to read the entire series.

"It's a lovely tale, great for Christmas and we ordered many copies because we expected large demand."

The £85 million version of CS Lewis's Narnia adventure, made by Walt Disney Pictures and producing partner Walden Media, is at the top of the movie charts.
