TWO-year-old Matthew Porter teaches the Mayor of Bury a thing or two about building blocks at Fairfield Hospital's transformed day nursery.
The youngster is just one of many children being cared for at the nursery while their parents go to work at the Rochdale Old Road complex. They treated their special guest to homemade cakes and treats as he officially re-opened the recently-refurbished nursery.
The mayor, Councillor Steve Treadgold, was treated to a tour of the state-of-the-art centre by Steven Price, chairman of the Pennine Acute Trust which runs Fairfield Hospital, and joined in some of the children's activities.
The £350,000 refurbishment includes separate rooms for tots, toddlers and older children along with a kitchen and a laundry and took 11 weeks to rebuild during the summer holidays.
Caroline Beirne, senior HR advisor for the trust, said: "Childcare is a major issue for many NHS staff, and the new nursery is absolutely fantastic!
"We've received very positive feedback from both the staff and clients, and we'd like to give our thanks to the estates staff who worked so hard on this over the summer."
