A MOSAIC will be built as lasting reminder of murdered schoolgirl Lauren Pilkington-Smith.
A site has been earmarked at the top of Sanderson Street, Leigh, just yards from where Lauren's body was found last July.
The tribute has been designed by a local artist to capture the mood of local residents mourning the death of the popular 10-year-old who lived close by in Twist Lane.
It bears the words: "We only let you out to play. We didn't know that someone would take you away."
Last week 18-years-old Kieron Smith, no relation, of Pilling Street, Leigh, was found guilty of Lauren's murder. He will be sentenced on January 20 but Judge Justice Mackay said: "There is only one sentence that can be passed on Kieron Smith, and that is a life sentence."
Meanwhile, a memorial garden is to be created my schoolfriends of Lauren to ensure her memory lives on.
After suggesting ideas for a lasting tribute, youngsters at Leigh CE Junior School are working with a designer to create a garden.
