I NOTE in the media that Wiganers are "up in arms" because the pies supplied for a pie eating contest at Harry's Bar in Wigan were produced in Farnworth.
One report stated "needless to say the town of Farnworth is not renowned for its pie production"
I was born and brought up in Farnworth, and I can remember pie shops galore. The shops I remember had their own bakeries at the rear, and the pies my mother bought in the 20s and 30s were delicious.
I'm in my 91st year, and I've moved around a bit over the years. I have yet to find any pies that compare with the Farnworth pies of my youth, the very thought of them makes my mouth water.
