IT is clear that Liberal Democrat councillors do not like to be opposed or even questioned. The latest example is Cllr Sylvester
He takes exception because I question the quality of council services. He seems to believe that potholes in roads, a fortnightly refuse collection service, the threat of further cuts in services, and rises in council tax are acceptable because the Audit Commission has awarded Bolton four stars.
It is ironic that on the day Cllr Sylvester wrote, we learned that the council had to issue an apology to over 500 households for sending a threatening letter about refuse collection. It blames a clerical error, but that is still a part of council services.
As you reported, I believe, and your leading article rightly affirms, the public are entitled to a wry smile at the award against such a background.
