training as an apprentice has certainly brightened the prospects of Lisa Barrington.
The 26-year-old has used an apprenticeship with Horwich training specialist Alliance Learning to earn a senior position at a flourishing nursery centre.
Lisa, from Leigh, is currently employed at the privately-run Sunbeams Child Care Nursery, which has two sites on Walmesley Road, Leigh, looking after up to 100 boys and girls aged from two-and-a half upward.
Lisa said: "I started as an assistant, helping with basic activities such as snacks and outdoor play. After about 10 months, one of the bosses suggested I should study for a recognised qualification."
A few months after gaining her Level 2 qualification, Lisa embarked on a Level 3 NVQ programme.
She said: "There are only the two owners of the business above me now and there are five other people below me.
"I feel I am a very valued member of staff and I feel very proud of what I have achieved."
