TOWN Hall leaders are keeping their fingers crossed after a money-seeking mission to London.

They met Phil Woolas, local government minister, and pressed their case for a better financial deal from the Government.

Up to 75 jobs, plus £10 million of cuts, are threatened after Bury received the worst provisional settlement in the country. The Government will confirm its figures by mid-January.

The team on Tuesday's visit comprised council leader Wayne Campbell, his deputy Mike Connolly, chief executive Mark Sanders and finance director Mike Owen.

Coun Campbell said: "We were pleased with the reception that the minister gave us and he was certainly in listening mode."
