A MALE resident was treated by paramedics after being overcome by smoke when a fire broke out at his flat.
The 25-year-old occupant was given oxygen but declined to be taken to hospital following the blaze on Sunday morning in Abingdon Close, Whitefield.
Firefighters were alerted by neighbours shortly before 9am and extinguished the burning settee in the living room of the apartment.
It is believed a discarded cigarette caused the fire.
