* Sedgley Park R.U.F.C produced a sterling display to defeat Warrington 13-4, a win that took the team into the final stages of the Lancashire Cup.
* The Whitefield 'Good Companions Club' broke a 33-year-old tradition after employing an outside caterer to prepare and serve their annual Christmas party meal.
* Star Trek (The Motion Picture). certificate U, was to be the major pre-Christmas film showing at the Mayfair Cinema.
